Bad News! Microsoft has announced that they are now ended its ambitious and innovative Project called Natick, which involved placing data centers underwater to study their feasibility and performance.
The experiment, conducted in the North Sea since 2018, revealed that underwater data centers had one-eighth the failure rate of on-land counterparts.
Despite promising results, Microsoft has no plans for further underwater data centers.
The company will use insights gained from the project to enhance data center reliability and sustainability in other environments. As the demand for data centers continues to grow, these lessons could be crucial for future technological advancements.
