Latest Innovation – A new aircraft combining helicopters and airplanes called the Racer was made by the Airbus Company.
It wings like an airplane, with forward-facing rotors, with helicopter blades, giving it a unique appearance that blends elements from both types of aircraft. This design is aimed at reducing flight times for emergency responders.
With these new and innovative designs that can have a maximum speed exceeding 400 km/h, the Racer demonstrator aims for the best balance between speed, cost-effectiveness, and mission success.
The company targets a 20% reduction in fuel consumption for this design compared to old helicopters. it has an aerodynamic improvement and an innovative eco-mode propulsion system developed with Safran Helicopter Engines.
This hybrid-electric system allows one engine to be paused during cruise flight, cutting CO2 emissions. Additionally, the Racer seeks to showcase how its design can minimize its operational noise footprint.
Recently, the test flight footage released by Airbus demonstrates its ability to take off and land vertically like a helicopter and land smoothly without needing a long runway.
“This project leads people to desire high speeds and safety features. They don’t want it at the expense of the environment”.
According to simulations, “the Racer meets Clean Sky 2 standards by reducing fuel usage and CO2 emissions by 20% compared to conventional aircraft of similar weight”, Guitton Said.
